Riona lives on the Island of Mull with her husband, Reay. Their two children, Alasdair and Megan, have both flown the nest but still have the occasional visit home.

Riona has been singing solo from an early age and has also been a member of groups and choirs as well as duets and quartets. She is actively involved in many community projects, especially Gaelic ones!

Riona Whyte, scooped the Gaelic Singer of the Year award at the 2012 Scots Trad Music Awards in Fort William. Riona released her debut album ‘Bunachas’ (Roots) on Watercolour’s Stòras imprint, celebrating her own Argyll roots.

Mary Ann Kennedy, compere for the evening, said: “We’re really delighted that Riona is getting the recognition she deserves. Her album Bunachas was a joy to work and play on, and we hope it will give many more folk the chance to hear a special voice.’
